PROVIDES Therapeutic Recreation group sessions in accordance to all standards outlined by JCAHO, federal and state regulations, Vermilion Hospital’s mission, and PI standards.




A. Collection of assessment data in a timely and thorough fashion.

B. Conducts therapeutic recreation tasks/groups as directed by the supervisor.

C. Documents weekly summaries in BIRP format and other medical record documentation as needed.

D. Documents daily services rendered on daily PED.

ATTENDS designated team meeting and conferences and COMPLETES required paperwork for treatment team




A. Attends treatment team staffings and meetings. Contributes information for and scribes Therapeutic Recreation Services weekly reports and relays relevant observations to the multidisciplinary team members and physicians during treatment team staffing.

B. Keeps current the weekly Treatment Plans outlining patient progress, and updates treatment plans as needed.

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting can be substituted on a year for year basis by educational requirement. Must have worked at least one year with age/disability population served or college degree with focus on age/disability population served.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited college or university is required. Experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting preferred.

SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to work effectively with other disciplines, and communicate relevant clinical details in writing as well as orally. The CTRS must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age/disability specific needs of the patient served on their assigned duties. The CTRS will demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Must be able to collect data about the patient status to facilitate the identification of the patient’s needs and appropriate care, including age/disability related, cultural sensitivity related care needed by the chronically mentally ill adult and/or chemical dependent patient populations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job is active and varied. A certain amount of physical and/or ROM movement is needed. Lifting is limited to ten pounds maximum and involves therapeutic recreation equipment. Physical mobility/ROM is needed to extend extremities in all directions and ability to bend and reach without limitations. Ability to walk at a reasonable pace unassisted. Fine and gross motor skills able to be preformed without limitation. 20/40 vision corrected or uncorrected.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work requires spending approximately 60% or more of the time inside a building, which offers protection.

PRIMARY CUSTOMERS: Patients, staff, community, visitors.
