ACTIVITY THERAPY COORDINATOR
Director of Social Services
Variable days and hours, including holidays and occasional weekends.
· Plans and implements specialized programs using a variety of rehabilitation and expressive therapies.

Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Music, Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy, or related discipline, or HS Diploma and 3 years related experience.
CPR and CPI Certified per policy. Licensure or Certification as required by accreditation or certification body specific to the individual’s discipline.
Three years clinical experience in a psychiatric setting, with at least one year’s experience applying activity therapy methods and techniques.

Ability to: provide activity groups as scheduled; perform physical interventions; document clearly in the medical record; use the fax, telephone, computer keyboard and security door key pad or keys.
Ability to effectively read, write and process information accurately; input/retrieve information to/from the computer, fax, phone and patient records; see objects and persons near and at a distance.
Ability to: communicate effectively with others and to give, take and process information; use the telephone extensively; ability to hear patients and staff on the unit so response can be timely and appropriate to needs; hear alarms or other sounds that may indicate a safety concern.
Exposure to: infection from disease-bearing specimens; blood-borne pathogens, body fluids and wastes; hazardous anesthetic agents; occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or departmental elements; occasionally subjected to irregular or prolonged hours; occasional exposure to high risk behaviors from patients or visitors that may result in agitation, aggression or violence; exposure to critical incidents and possible exposure to sentinel events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PROGRAM PLANNING & COORDINATION
· Establish a therapeutic activities program in accordance with clinical guidelines and modalities recognized and accepted by the behavioral field.
· Plan, acquire and maintain adequate inventory of materials and equipment used in the program.
· Prepare and implement an activities therapy schedule.
· Coordinate recognition and observance of holidays or special events with appropriate decorations, theme appropriate groups, activities and snacks for patients and families
· Provide therapeutic activities for assigned patients as scheduled.
· Assess patient needs and facilitate activities that are appropriate to age, development, needs and interests of the patients served.
· Document group sessions in the medical record per hospital requirements.
· Seek clinical supervision and support when complications arise in dealing with a patient(s) either in an individual or group setting.
· Maintain current knowledge of expressive therapy methods and techniques.
· Research best practices and program models.
· Modify program using patient and staff feedback and research data to improve program quality and effectiveness.
TREATMENT TEAM MEMBER
· Provide services as a member of the multidisciplinary team and as directed by the attending physician, the Director of Social Services and the patient treatment plan.
· Communicate with nursing staff any changes in a patient’s status, including medical or behavioral.
· Interact with patients, family members, external entities and internal staff professionally and respectfully.
· Work collaboratively with all treatment team members to create a treatment environment that supports the hospital’s mission to provide exemplary patient care and customer service.
· Act to preserve patient and family dignity and safety.
· Documentation for medical records and reports is timely, legible, thorough, and in required format.
· Document as required including assessments, treatment plan, and group notes
· Update and revise treatment plan as assigned and per policy.
