Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Plant Supervisor at our New Orleans Hydrogen facility.

The New Orleans facility is comprised of two liquid hydrogen plants, a nitrogen liquefier, a steam methane reformer, an offsite air separation unit, and an offsite nitrogen generator. Gaseous and liquid hydrogen and gaseous nitrogen and oxygen are manufactured at the facilities and shipped off site via pipeline and by truck.

The plant supervisor position will have broad responsibility to support the Site Manager in all aspects of the day-to-day plant operations. The expectation is that the successful candidate will progress to management opportunities of increasing responsibility.

He / She will interface daily with the New Orleans team consisting of operators, maintenance technicians, delivery drivers and engineers.

The successful candidate will need to be able to identify and develop talent, while promoting teamwork. He / She will provide clarity around roles and responsibilities, authority, and expectations; moves work forward to effectively managing ambiguity, removing obstacles and eliminating non-value added work. He / She must be able to use understanding of cross-functional and enterprise implications of decisions to break down silos and leverage other resources and expertise for the greater good.

Key Responsibilities for this position include:

• Management of the site’s Basic Safety Process and Process Safety Management

• Ensure Environmental compliance in accordance with Air Products Corporate and Governmental Regulations

• Understand safe operating, design, permit limits; actively practice alarm management

• Directly supervise site operators

• Support of all aspects of the day-to-day operation, including troubleshooting plant process problems, supervising daily plant activities and driving plant projects

• Identify maintenance concerns, develop and and implement corrective measures with the maintenance team, carry out site preventive maintenance and mechanical integrity programs

• Interface with customers and the Air Products commercial team

• Implement and share best practices

• Investigate incidents and near misses, understand and correct the root cause of failures


• Demonstrated managerial, leadership and interpersonal skills

• Strong commitment to EHS, employee development, team building and diversity

• Ability to interface with senior customer representatives and community leaders

• A Bachelor of Science in Engineering, military experience, or CI certification are considered a plus

• 5 years of operating plant experience
