As a User Interface Developer and User Experience Designer at Canal Barge Company, you'll use your strong visual and technical design and implementation skills to empower our employees to be more productive and make smarter business decisions. Canal Barge Company is looking for someone who will help us build new data-driven tools and business process interaction experiences to help us have cutting-edge differentiation in our industry.
In the User Experience Designers aspect of your role, you will collaborate with small, agile, multidisciplinary teams to create compelling, intuitive, and innovative employee-centered and customer-centered experiences across our web and mobile applications. You’ll be involved in every step of the process for UX design — researching the best possible solutions, creating user flows and wireframes, designing mockups and example screens, and prototyping experiences.
In the User Interface Developer aspect of your role, you will collaborate as a member of the solutions development team to build the User Interface / Presentation Layer of our applications, and sometimes designing and coding deeper, even full-stack solutions if you have those skills.
Own design projects - think platforms, new web and mobile apps, admin tools, tactile and voice interfaces, AI-assisted user interfaces, and other high-impact projects
Work directly with our users, business analysts, analytics department, and other development engineers, delivering them solution UX and UI specs
Work directly with users, analysts and other developers to envision and iterate on concepts
Contribute to high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the team
Compile research, create user flows, produce wireframe solutions, and deliver example screens
Maintain UX and UI specifications and standards across suite of web and mobile solutions
Be an integral part of the development team, Implementing UI designs in high quality coded implementations
Qualifications and Skills
Experience designing and implementing responsive web and/or mobile apps
A broad range of development skills throughout the stack, but with an emphasis on user interface design and implementation.
A solid design background with an obsessive eye for interaction and visual details
Ability to think at a high level about solution strategy and vision
Strong sense of ownership and accountability toward the solutions you create
Strong skills in balancing planning, documentation and agile development methodology
Proficiency with wireframe and visual design tools (e.g. Balsamiq, Sketch, OmniGraffle, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Experience and comfort with both state of the art and proven UI implementation technologies, such as React, JSF and its variations, Bootstrap, Angular.
Comfort with bringing forth AI-assisted UI, such as natural language interfaces and machine learning.
Ability to clearly articulate your design decisions
Mature and effective communication skills with users, developers and management.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, User Experience Design, or related field
Number of Years of Experience
Minimum of 2 years of UX web and mobile design experience and 2 years of UI development experience, producing engaging, usable, and effective designs and implemented solutions using user-centric principles.
