Job Brief

Directs the operation the Ammonia Plant and all related utilities through utilization of production personnel. Maintains safe working conditions within the plant, promotes personnel safety and business excellence. Mentors, coaches and develops production staff while striving for continuous improvement.

Essential Functions :

  • Lead by example to demonstrate IPL’s commitment to “Zero Harm to everyone, everywhere”.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations.

  • Accept responsibility for the safety for the crew team members and contractors as well as coach on and participate in visible safety leadership activities to demonstrate commitment to Zero Harm and risk management.

  • Verbally directs team members and partners with Operations Manager on any employee performance or employee relations concerns.

  • Initiate and lead incident investigations, encouraging the team to work through problem solving efforts.

  • Supervise daily production processes and the performance of an advanced world-scale Ammonia Plant, Water Treatment Plant including Coag 3, and ammonia delivery facilities.

  • Lead T1 Meetings and actively participate as a member of the T2 team by maintaining open, effective and collaborative working relationships at all levels and by engaging people through open values based behaviours.

  • Manage plant emergent situations and act as Incident Commander as required.

  • Provide mentoring, coaching and developmental support to crew team members in pursuit of skill growth and maturing of the workforce.

  • Prioritise and campaign the importance of training to ensure all team members are sufficiently skilled, enabled and motivated to succeed whilst balancing production priorities and commitments.

  • Undertake resource monitoring and co-ordination in advance so the Production Technicians are adequately equipped to meet daily and weekly targets (encompassing raw product inventory control)

  • Promote and lead team participation in achieving KPI’s.

  • Leverage the IPL risk framework to identify, assess, control, and escalate risk.

  • Function effectively as a critical control owner to manage risk.

  • Prepare and deliver regular updates on plant and process performance to the Operations Manager.

  • Assist in the execution of maintenance PM's and work with the maintenance team to ensure accuracy of SAP maintenance master data including functional location structure, document management, and PM strategies.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key customers and the logistics team to ensure the safe and efficient collection and delivery of finished product.

  • Work effectively with the various site departments and stakeholders to ensure problems are resolved efficiently and effectively to prevent reoccurrence

  • Develop a Culture of Operational Discipline:

  • Develop, review, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

  • Understand safe operating, design, and permit limits.

  • Actively practice alarm management; Don’t tolerate standing alarms.

  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting skills and operational “know-how”.

  • Use and update P&IDs and ensure P&ID literacy among the shift.

  • Maintain flawless execution of overrides and jumper bypasses.

  • Excel in the application of safe work practices and standards.

  • Report, investigate, and learn from incidents.

  • Excellent housekeeping in all corners of the plant.

Technical Competencies

  • Process Technology or Engineering Degree: 5-10 years’ experience in Petrochem plants or similar heavy industrial plants. A minimum of 5 years’ supervisory/leadership experience.Knowledge and understanding of Ammonia Production.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience in management of service providers and contractors.

  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.

  • Demonstrated capability in working collaboratively and working to tight timelines.

  • Able to work autonomously and with limited supervision

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Understanding of Electrical and Instrumentation systems.

  • Computer literacy - MS Word, MS Excel, Lotus Notes and SAP.

  • Able to participate in flexible work arrangements and rotating shifts.

Ability to wear and care for applicable personal protective equipment (such as, safety glasses and shoes, respirator, hard hat and ear protection, safety harness) as required by site specific requirements
